Powerflushing in the process of pumping water and special chemicals around your central heating system at high speed and low pressure. The aim is to remove any rust, limescale or other potential obstructions that tend to build up in boilers, pipes and radiators over time.
Powerflushing should usually be carried out when your system is first installed and then repeated on a regular basis (usually around every five years). The process has a number of important benefits for your boiler and central heating.
Comfort
One of the first signs that your system needs powerflushing is if radiators in certain rooms are failing to warm up or have cold spots (usually found near the bottom). This suggests that the hot water is not flowing effectively around your system. This will usually leave you with some rooms that are much colder than others reducing your overall comfort or forcing you to turn up the heating to achieve a comfortable temperature.
Cost
Any blockages will mean that your system has to work harder to heat your home effectively. That means burning more fuel to reach a comfortable temperature which will inevitably lead to an increase in your bills. Clearing any blockages with a powerflush will allow your system to work more efficiently and should ultimately pay for itself through the savings you make on your energy bills.
Maintenance
Any build-up of rust, limescale or other debris can lead to mechanical failures within your system which could end up leaving your boiler and other components beyond economical repair. Regular powerflushing can reduce the likelihood of experiencing a breakdown and extend the lifetime of your boiler significantly.
