When you get a new boiler installed, you will almost certainly be offered some kind of warranty. This usually lasts from 3 years up to as much as 10 years in some cases. If something goes wrong with your boiler within that period, you won’t have to pay to have it put right, potentially saving you a lot of money.
However, beware! Your warranty is only valid if you stick to the conditions set out in the original warranty agreement. Make sure you are familiar with those conditions and it could end up saving you big in the future.
Read the small print!
Many people fail to read their warranty agreement, so have no way of knowing whether they are doing what they should to remain covered. It is absolutely essential that you read yours thoroughly and follow its instructions so you don’t get caught out if your boiler does develop a fault.
Getting your boiler serviced
One of the most critical conditions of any boiler warranty will be making sure you have your boiler checked and maintained on a regular basis by a qualified boiler engineer. Most warranties will specify that your boiler should be serviced at least every 12 months so make sure it stays in good working condition.
Your installer should offer to set you up with a maintenance contract when they first put your boiler in for you. This is the easiest way to make sure your boiler gets the required annual service as you won’t need to remember when it’s time for your next service, your engineer will contact you when you’re due.
What to do if your warranty has lapsed
If you have reached the end of your warranty period, or your boiler is no longer covered for any other reason, it is still important to get it serviced regularly. This will keep it working efficiently and reduce the chances of a breakdown which could leave you with a costly repair bill out of the blue.
