People normally only think about their boiler when something goes wrong, but even if yours hasn’t broken down your boiler may be giving you a hint that it needs to be replaced. So how do you know if the time has come to invest in a new model?
1. Your boiler is faulty
Perhaps your boiler usually does the job but occasionally plays up. If this is happening more and more frequently, it’s likely that it’s on its way out. You may be able to fix it, but if you keep having to call someone out and constantly need new parts you may find you are paying out more than you should to fix a boiler that probably won’t last much longer anyway.
2. You’ve had your boiler a long time
The average boiler lasts between 10 and 15 years, but there’s no guarantee that yours will survive that long. If yours is approaching the 10 year mark, you might want to consider replacing it before any problems arise.
3. Your energy bills are high
If your boiler is old or inefficient you may end up paying over the odds for your energy. New boilers tend to be much more energy efficient. Over time, the savings you will make in energy bills will make a substantial dent in the upfront cost of installing a new boiler.
4. Your household’s needs have changed
Perhaps your lifestyle has changed since your original boiler was installed, such as additional members of family in the home. The most common type of boiler in the UK is now a condensing boiler (including combi-boilers, heat-only and system boilers). Condensing boilers are more energy-efficient than older mains gas boilers, using around 90% of their heat, and are easy to install. They are much more efficient for larger households and will make a big difference to the energy bills.
