Oil boilers provide heat and hot water to homes using an oil-fired boiler system rather than off the mains gas system many of us are used to. When considering a boiler replacement, it’s wise to weigh up your options and choose a system that will benefit your household, while remaining cost-effective. Oil is actually much more efficient than gas so may be a match for your requirements.
Off the grid
For homes in rural areas and towns, it’s not as simple to connect to the mains gas. With no connection or access to mains gas, oil boilers are the necessity. This affects more people than you’d think, with an estimated 4 million UK households using an oil boiler as a requirement.
Oil tank
Having an oil boiler requires an oil delivery to your home, which is then stored in a tank outside of your property. This means you need to have ample space around your home to store the oil, or alternatively you can opt to have the oil tank underground.
Efficiency
Oil is a more efficient way of heating your home compared to gas, especially with a modern condensing boiler. This means that you’ll get more heating and hot water for your money with an oil system, however it is not considered an eco-friendly heating option.
Pricing
Oil prices have hit a low, making them much cheaper than the LPG gas alternative at the moment, especially with the continual rise of gas prices. This hasn’t always been the case, with oil being historically more expensive than gas so it’s worth remembering that the prices could return to their usual but, as it stands, oil is a much more cost-effective option. You will, however, need to pay a considerable amount more to set up an oil system in your home.
